buy | sell websites; here’s what I need in order to pique my interest…

GoogleAnalytics

So you have a website to sell.
You want to come and talk to me about it but you’re not sure about what’s involved.
Here’s what I will ask of you.

Apart from standard questions I ask, mainly around the history of the site, why it started, it’s story really, I will need to see the following to substantiate revenue/income and traffic/statistics:

  • screen shots of what you use to collect the monies
for example: PayPal, Adsense, affiliates, etc
  • Screen shots or PDFs of the Google “Analytics” summary

Ideally these are for the duration that the site has been running.

With any of this information, please blacken out any personal details not relevant to me, like bank account details etc.

These are the basics required to ascertain what you’ve got and how you prove it.
Easy!

what has Online Strategy got to do with Exit?

OnlineStrategy3

During the life-cycle of building a Mother of a Business, it makes perfect sense to ask a number of provoking, asset-protection, risk-minimisation questions to get YOU, the Business Owner, thinking along the lines of “Start with the End in Mind” TODAY, regardless of how old the Business is.

Thinking Online Strategy is no different!

Taking this initiative is paramount for ALL Business Owners who seriously want to successfully transition the Business while YOU are in the best position to do so. With potential Business Owners asking more and more about Online Strategy and Execution as part of their due diligence, you cannot afford to be addressing it.

There are benefits to the business now as well, in the proactive nature of this action taken. This is in terms of knowing that a plan is in place, that it is being actively worked towards and that it will add to the value of the business at time of sale..

Where you don’t not want to entertain this discussion at all when in a position to influence the Exit outcome, you may instead think it will all sort itself out in the end. To some extent, this is correct. Ultimately, it will get sorted, but in the way YOU the Business Owner had envisaged? Possibly not.

If an Online Strategy does not feature has part of the business model, the asking price will be discounted.

Why? Isn’t that an opportunity for the new owner? Yes it is. But a Buyer is not going to pay you for the privilege of trying something that you have not.

Your Business may be the 2nd largest, if not the largest asset owned, therefore it needs to be handled with respect accordingly.

If you’re serious about having this conversation, please contact me.

the evolution of the Consultant, re-ignite your Pull Factor…

Pull

OK, you’ve worked out what’s happening and what you’ve potentially got to offer someone else taking over, a great start!

You’ve decided to continue working on your “Push” Business Model by exploring options, so what next? What about looking at how to get your “Pull” Factor back,to further leverage the new business model?

And so you don’t have to work so hard…

By going through the analysis of where you’re at in your consulting world means that it may/should have changed dramatically, as discussed in the previous weeks posts. You have played your client relationships beautifully and the work is pouring in.

Now what?

Time to look at how to get your “Pull Factor” back (or ignited in the first place!). Especially given that the first phase of development has been all about “Push”.

Where Consultants used to be about winning work, delivery, systems, processes, structures and hierarchies, they are now emerging as inspirational, creative-thinking, consultative and effective business “partners”. With movement from the “I” to the “WE”.

Given the marketplace continues to crowd however, information overwhelmed clients (that are not your clients – yet) are always looking for the next best thing to apply to their organisations. This is where the revived, re-energized, revitalised, refocused YOU come in.

  • Get them talking about you and what you know,
  • Have them invite you to events and to sit at their board table
  • Generate demand so you have a waitlist!
  • Automate the systems that sit behind you, enabling you to do your thing

This is about taking your story to the greater market, by sharing this new way of being a Leader in business and life.

brilliant business mums awards… time to enter

Basic CMYK

The Motivating Mum Brilliant Biz Mum Awards are halfway through and doing fab – but waiting for your nomination!! Entries are only accepted until March 15, 11.59pm so you had better get cracking..

I’m sure I have no need to point out why doing such a thing is a good one to do.
Apart from being a great positioning piece, it will also open up new frontiers that you have not yet been exposed to…

Nominations are in these areas:

  • Best Photo for Business (open to amateur and professional – it’s not so much technical as heart-based),
  • Best Plan of Attack (who has a great business plan, marketing plan etc and knows where they are going and sticking to it!),
  • Most out of the Box Marketing Campaign (who’s great at marketing their biz),
  • Best not-for-profit mum (this can be a mum who runs a not-for-profit or who has just hosted a not-for-profit event),
  • Best Budgeter (who does an amazing job of managing their budget for business) and,
  • Best Written Piece (non-blog) (who has written an article or press release that reads really well).

Link to info on the Awards is: http://motivatingmum.com/events/383-brilliant-biz-mum-awards-info-entry

I would normally say feel free to ask me to nominate you, but in this case I am a judge in one of the categories so I wouldn’t want to be looking to pervert the cause of justice! If you feel a little uncomfortable nominating yourself, then ask your partner, friend, parent, lover to do it.

Remember, entries close March 15 with announcements April 1.

Good luck!

RANT: how can Buyers buy Small Businesses without lending?
Why do lending institutions make it so hard to borrow, especially in the $500,000 – $2mil range of borrowing required.

What happened to lending against the business as opposed to now having to use the family home. Sometimes, not even giving up your first born will suffice!

Yes, I understand all the logic. It however will not enable those who want to grow up to be Business Owners (especially when it may be the only option they’ve got, given they seem to be “unemployable”) to get in the market any time soon.

Surely someone one can come up with a product that can satisfy all requirements and be fair and reasonable.

I challenge those of you in the lending space to get clever and lateral and assist in the kickstart of a new chapter for many…
