Did some website renovation work today, including adding a few plugins in and changing some wording… even found an eBook to add to sell, which appears to be right on the money for what I’m looking for. Phew! Thought I’d end up having to writing it myself. Will get that added and see what happens. It’s all test and measure, lets face it!

Not much happening on the Business Sale front, as most businesses comes to terms with the end of financial year. Suspect though that the phone will start ringing again soon, as the realisation of the 2013-14 numbers comes to bear.

There’s been an upsurge in Sellability Score questionnaire completion, perhaps an indicator of what’s to come…
Especially given that more and more Buyers are making themselves known…

Spent 3 days learning further about all things Buy and Sell Websites and wasn’t it worth it! Sometimes you just have to DO to work it out and DOing I am!

There are so many things happening in the Buy and Sell Website space, it’s hard not to try and play in them all at once. So I spent the 4th day locked away, plotting and scheming in terms of how my revived learning impacts on my daily activities from now on. A most rewarding exercise it was too.

So what does that mean?
I am definitely keen to talk to anyone who has a website to sell, or thinks they might like to sell in the not too distant future, because the range of options I now have to assist them are deep and doable. Come and talk to me…

It’s all systems go! Advertisement is ready to fire.  This is a cracker for a white-collar wanting to get out of the office or a trade wanting to get off the tools. Given how close to end-of-financial-year it is, we’re going to wait a few weeks, get the 2014 numbers done and then go to market.

Assisting colleague by introducing the perfect buyer for his selling client. However, due to their own growth plans, this has been placed on the back burner. Vendor has given all-clear to 3 private parties who have indicated interest, with another 2 more in the wings. IMs have been sent.

Health Care Provider
Assisting colleague by introducing the Home Help interested party to their client, now that the authority has been signed. As it turns out, the offer out of nowhere was being used as their first step in the process. One prospective party is keen to meet, which has now been organised.

Spending the next 3 days learning further about all things Buy and Sell Websites. Looking forward to sharpening my saw on the skill set I am nurturing and developing and enjoying. Sometimes you just have to DO to work it out!

Fortunately, during your time as a Broker, you come across people who get it!
By that I mean, there is no education component required in order for them to understand what you’re revealing.
And what a pleasure that is when it happens…

Had a meeting on Wednesday with a well-established Business Advisor. As usual, there was a few things on the agenda, one of which was the introduction of a business we have for sale. The reason was because I had seen this particular chap present a keynote recently and what he spoke of is how we want to sell this business. Hence the invitation for a coffee and a chat.

Much to our collective delight, he could see what we are trying to achieve and on first glance, is prepared to work in with us to get a mutually beneficial outcome. Happy days!

Slight complication here where there was a possible “gazumping” on the cards, but fortunately our process stood up.

The Linkedin campaign commenced sourcing and contacting larger agencies. Some have said thanks but no thanks. Otherwise have accepted the preliminary information but nothing else as yet. And others haven’t responded at all.  Next phase will be going to our “referral network”. What will next week bring?

Contacted key players, the largest of which has put their hand up. It’s all rather good timing in so far as their next Board meeting is Sunday, so the Business Profile has already been provided, in readiness.

As it turns out, the offer out of nowhere was being used as their first step in the process. Unfortunately for the prospective buyer, it’s way off the mark and that’s because they listened to their accountant who clearly doesn’t understand the business buying/selling process. They’ve been invited in to discuss the issue but so far no response.

the power of a well-constructed and timely email…

Email

Today, I started a campaign for a business sale. This campaign though is not following the usual “sale process”. The client has been very specific about who would find what they have for sale of value. As a result, there is to be no advertising of a public nature. Instead, we have developed a 3-pronged proactive process.

It is made up of

  • professionally approaching to the larger ones first,
  • with others that have expressed an interest in the past next
  • followed by going out to the clients OWN database

Given their own client list is extensive and the importance of having an engaged relationship with the database, I do not doubt that a buyer can be found there. But this is a rare case, because in most instances, confidentiality is sought requiring no-one on the inside knowing about the sale.

Even with the sale of my own business, we always said that the most probable owner was sitting in our list but we did not have access to a process in order to flush them out. Just shows some of what I’ve learned in last 3 years, doesn’t it… but I digress… because this is where the well-constructed, timely email (or LinkedIn connect for that matter) and the use of honesty being the best policy comes in.

For this business (and another I’m also selling), chosen words stating exactly why I have contacted them has resulted in a most appreciative response, whether the timing is right for them or not. Fortunately, in the case of what I did today, the timing also worked, with the potential buyer very keen to get things moving. And for the others where the timing is not right, they’ve asked to be kept in the loop of other possibilities. Excellent!

Here’s hoping it all ends with the perfect fairytale ending and if not, how about something even better!

Started some of the renovation of the transferred website this week, with more to come. Best way is to step this out anyway, given I want to know what works and what doesn’t. I won’t know that if I do it all at once will I? Yes, I do need to double the numbers first off, to make it worth continuing the process, but systematically and consistently is the way to go.

Most interesting week!

My past Consulting world is starting to make its presence felt. And it feels OK. When I sold my business 3 years ago, I thought Consulting would be the last place I would consider playing in again. And this would still be the case if I had not been contacted by two separate parties this week about doing a project or two. Both of reasonably considerable size too.

Interesting the timing on this too. The 3-year restraint of trade clause I agreed to abide by ends at the end of June, that is, in two weeks time. Is the Universe providing? Maybe, if you believe in such things. Or is it all serendipitous, who can say. I do find it worthy of observation and consideration nonetheless.

Who knows, these may not go anywhere. However, given they both tie in with my now well-tuned Exit Strategy filter, they could end up being a lot of fun. Looking forward to see what transpires…

Not sure this one is going anywhere now… bugger! However, I did have a conversation with a chap this week, who assures me he is the one to go in and turn this around. And maybe he is. Just need to introduce him in, once he supplies his snapshot of why he should be considered.

Due Diligence is now done, with some argy bargy about certain declarations which has resulted in a price revision. Nothing major but relevant nonetheless. Next, contracts!

how confident are You about your Business Prospects?

The Voice

This morning I had the pleasure of attending the launch of bentleys.com.au ‘The Voice of Australian Business’ Update, the first of a series of briefings designed to provide detailed feedback from more than 1,500 small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) from across Australia.

HOW CONFIDENT ARE SMEs ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS PROSPECTS?

The good news is that more than half of respondents expressed confidence about their business prospects with just under a quarter worried about what the future might bring. The remaining quarter of respondents were neutral about their business prospects, confirming that they were neither confident nor worried.

A number of factors appeared to enhance business confidence among respondents. For example, the bigger the SME, the more confident the business felt, with medium sized enterprises (101-200 employees) expressing the greatest optimism for the future compared to small and micro organisations.

What is your view?
