Women and men are now equal at work?

Women and men are now equal at work – at least in their dissatisfaction with it.

Work, Life and Workplace Flexibility: The Australian Work and Life Index 2009, finds women are much more likely than men to feel rushed and pressed for time, and these feelings of time pressure appear to be becoming more common.

While work hours dropped slightly in the past year because of the financial crisis, the pressure on women to juggle work with other responsibilities increased.

Two-thirds of full-time working women surveyed said they were rushed for time, compared with half of men.

The study surveyed 2,691 Australians, covering part-time and full-time workers and the self-employed.

The results ranked Australia ninth for work-life balance in a group of 32 European countries. This was below Germany and Britain but above France and Italy.

The Mayonnaise Jar – Words of Wisdom…

Who’d have thought! Not sure where this little gem came from, but I had to share it…

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle,
When 24 hours in a day is not enough;
remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and start to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full?
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured it into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full?
They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full?
The students responded with an unanimous ‘yes.’

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table
and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

‘Now,’ said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things – family, children, health, friends, God and favorite passions.
Things that if everything else was lost, and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else — The small stuff.

“If you put the sand into the jar first,’ he continued,
there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,
You will never have room for the things that are
important to you.

So…

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play with your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the dripping tap.

Take care of the golf balls first — The things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.”

Anyone for coffee?

come play with me at the Cash Machine workshop…with Loral Langmeier

hi there
I really want you to come to this, with me,
I know you will get so much out of it….

Every once in a while, as you know, you just need to spend on your OWN development. As a result I have signed up for the Cash Machine workshop, putting my hand in my wallet, and I can’t wait. Fortunately for you, I can also invite guests to come along; but only two.

The beauty is that my invitees get, not only, access to the same as what I do, but I’ve already done all the research in finding a fabulous mentor! Plus, we will be able to hold each others hand, and keep each other focused throughout the workshop, and beyond.
How good is that?….

Why have I chosen Loral over the many others that I have been introduced to previously?
a. she’s an entrepreneurial mother, who takes all the mother stuff into account because that’s also her frame of reference
b. she has built a multi-million dollar business on her own terms
c. she’s wants to take as many of our children on the same educational journey, via us
d. she lives life out loud… gotta love that!

So… do you want to join me?
What do you say?

Now’s the time to get more serious about making the cash that you want…

I’ve got your ticket ready and waiting, you just need to say YES by emailing me before Friday the 13th (very lucky for some!) and I’ll arrange it…

here’s what you’ll get:
a. Entry to The Cash Machine Workshop that runs from the 27th to 29th November in Melbourne.
b. The Wealth Foundation Pack . This will be sent to you when confirmation of the purchase has been made.
c. A bonus DVD called Your Fast Path To Cash.

FYI – I’ve just been through the Wealth Foundation Pack and have already made changes to my financials that will result in me making the money back that I’ve spent on my ticket price of $2995 already (discounted from $3875), plus a whole lot more; not bad hey!

you know you want too…
cheers denise

Entrepreneurs – Theory vs Practice…

This is well worth reading, from yesterdays The Age

BRW Young Rich and BRW Fast 100 entrepreneurs don’t always follow the textbooks when it comes to maintaining rapid growth.

Tony Featherstone has a special interest in these lists having conceived and launched the BRW Young Rich and expanded the BRW Fast 100 into a much bigger report during my BRW editorship earlier this decade.

If anything, his interest in these lists has grown now that he lectures part time in entrepreneurship at university. He gets to see if entrepreneurship theory matches the practice.

In many cases it does, but Australia’s best emerging entrepreneurs also do some things differently from the textbooks. Here are seven key divergences he sees where the theory is different to the practice – click here to read the detail and to add your views on any others:
1. Exit strategies
2. Strategy
3. Systems
4. Venture capital
5. Innovation
6. Serial entrepreneurship
7. Niche markets

As entrepreneurial mothers, we know only too well that what is said or reported about combining the whole motherhood and business thing, and what actually happens/has to happen, are quite different. Not necessarily in a bad way, but certainly different.
Do you agree?
