I have just spent the last 2 days at Sheepvention in Hamilton, Victoria, 300+ kms from Melbourne.
Why? I was assisting a buddy of mine who does the event management for such field day events on behalf of the ANZ Bank, and what a job she does… and what an inspiring woman she is. Whilst she would not like me touting how good she is, I’m going to do it anyway!…
Here is a woman who is not only the chief bread winner in her house, she has also had to deal with both personal and family related health issues as well, and does so with such a dignity and grace that it is all quite humbling really. Just another of these unsung heroes that have their own stories, but who would know…
One of my aims, through the entrepreneurial mother, would be to start collecting these stories, and cataloguing them for prosperity… apart from family members, who else will be able to appreciate and respect the strength, resilience and love that their stories involve.

hello… I trust the end of the financial year has been all that you planned, and more!…
One key article I would like to draw to your attention is the one from Tim Ferris “The 4 hour work week” … if you’ve not read this, please go here to do so (FYI – you will find this and many more articles on this blog… feel free to visit any time)
Over the last 2 months, I have given the keynote address at the Deakin Alumni breakfasts, in both Melbourne and Geelong. The feedback has been fabulous, and has even led to me taking part in research being conducted through Swinburne in regard to Entrepreneurs and their Stress Levels… who would have thought!
As I always say, be bold and opportunistic … so, based on questions I was asked in terms of offering additional assistance in making Life! work, I am now in the process of constructing a workshop which will enable, and give permission to, entrepreneurial mothers (and fathers!) to take the time out to spend on that business idea, or that plan around combining all that you do into making Life! work. “INsolvencies soar” TheAge reports this morning… same story, my headline reads “More budding entrepreneurs are willing to give it a crack!”… which do you prefer?
Poor strategic management, insufficient cash flow and trading losses are among the most common reasons why companies fail, and in most cases, unsecured creditors receive less than 10 in the dollar back, statistics from the corporate regulator indicate.
The figures suggest that the vast majority of failed companies have fewer than 200 employees, almost 65% of them have less than five staff members, and that more failures occur in the construction, business services and retail industries.

What this article has not included is how many companies have registered over the same period…
in 2008 alone, 9730 registered in January with it registrations “soaring” to 13789 in May.

So yes, there has been a marked increase in insolvencies, which in turn relates to a marked increase in registrations. It could easily be translated that more and more people are giving themselves a chance to make it in business, with a percentage not being successful (this time!)
No reason to stop doing it though is there?…
