To Get Clear Is To Be Clear…

MoneyBagToday I spent time in a meeting that I had arranged but was being led by another party. The reason for the meeting was to help the Business Owners “get clear”…

“Get Clear”about what? About their options, as opposed to pinging around from one option to another in the hope that one sticks!

This is what happens when you don’t know who to talk to, nor do you know how to find the right person. Mind you, it happens to all of us when we are moving into new territory!

When it’s a big ticket item like hanging on to 100% of your business that is on the cusp of greatness, where capital raising is required, there’s nothing more disheartening than to find you not only don’t meet bank criteria and the accountant offers you details on your situation but is not able to direct you much further, unless you’ve got family and friends with deep pockets, what do you do?

Fortunately I was in a position to assist these particular clients, hence the meeting today.  The beauty about the meeting today was having a learned colleague who could ask all the right questions and have a pretty clear idea on how to assist.

It went so well that a proposal is under construction… Fingers crossed it all works out so they can win the “first prize” they’re after!

Does Your Business Make Money In Spite of Itself?

sale-tag

The more I talk to business owners, the more I realise that many of them don’t actually know how they make their money!

Let me rephrase that… they don’t really know how their customers/ clients have found them and why they keep coming back.

Do you find that bizarre?

Initially, my answer would also be yes. But I’ve come to realise that doing so is a work-ON-business exercise. Not one that is done on a day-to-day basis. Of course, if you don’t give yourself work-ON-business time, how are you ever going to discover what your market is telling you?

Time to set aside Friday work-ON-business afternoons I think.
What about you?

Interview with Liz O’Dwyer of Business Success Radio…

Business Success Radio

Today, I had the good fortune of being interviewed by Liz O’Dwyer of Business Success Radio.

We had met to discuss my afternoon with Seth Godin back in January 2, 2013, in New York City, which we did.

As is always the  case though when talking about  “The Icarus Deception” and Living your Art, my Art always comes into play… that being of working with Business Owners to start the process of Getting Out.

We Business Owners spend a whole lot of time in start-up and growth mode, as you should. But just like a job that you’ve been in 5 years for example, you do get sick of it. Either your business has to be reinvented or you do within the business. Neither exercise is easily done; doable – yes, but certainly not easy…

Business is NOT a Life Sentence, so lets talk about that…

(the interview will soon be live on BSR, be sure to tune in)

Business Book Club…

Seth Godin's latest

Seth Godin’s – Poke the Box

I’ve just returned from my every 6-week Book Club soiree. We have a lovely time catching up with each other and discussing the books. Some of which we’ve loved and others not so but nevertheless, much discussion and sometimes debate ensues. And we all learn about little bit more about ourselves and the world around us as a result.

That got me thinking on the way home… why don’t we have a Business Book Club. I’d be happy to run it. Can do it via webinar so no need to leave home. I’m convinced a whole lot of learning about the businesses we are building would take place, both at an individual level and the greater good we are trying to impact.

What do you think?

If you’re interested, email me on sell@theentrepreneurialmother.com and lets get it started… Never enough book reading and learning in the world I say!
