Here’s the question that stopped Kerry Ann Nelson, organiser of the Business Builders Bonanza dead in her tracks: “How can you not, as a Business Owner, know what your Business is Worth at any given time?” So she asked me, as an ex-Business Owner turned Business Value Analyst, Exit Strategist and Broker to Business Owners of Australia, to talk about this very topic as part of the “Sales and Cashflow” topic on August 11.
Building a Business into an Asset (as well as a Cashflow vehicle) may result in it being possibly the largest asset you’ll ever own, if not second after your home. So by NOT considering all angles may result in all the blood, sweat, tears, time and money you’ve invested resulting in close to nothing!
According to recent statistics from the “Centre of Women’s Business Research USA”, only 3% of women-owned businesses reach $1million revenue or more. Highlight women who are also the primary breadwinners, that % is even lower. I am proud to feature in both categories.
Blend this breadth of experience and execution together with having sold my 7-figure business (plus two smaller ones) and subsequently assisting many others to do the same since then, you can see why Kerry Ann sought me out to discuss this further in the context of Sales and Cashflow.
Come on August 11 and learn how establish the true value of your business, how to increase that value with a strategic plan you implement over time, and how to develop an exit strategy that allows you to GET OUT as profitably and seamlessly as possible whenever you are ready.
This is the MUST DO Event for Business Owners with their end game firmly in mind. Register today and we’ll see you here https://rebrand.ly/SALESANDCASHFLOWMEETUP

A surprise Facebook post popped up after my visit to the Latrobe City Council offices. The photos, taken during the “Financial Security for Small Business” workshop I was facilitating in March 2018, included when the Mayor, Cr. Darrell White dropped in.
The workshops run over two days, 4 weeks apart, where participants learn how to create a sustainable financial future for their businesses. They are supported by the Small Business Mentoring Service – SBMS, of which I am a member, hence the gig.

As a Business Owner, knowing what your business is Worth at any given time makes perfect sense, except not many know how to actually do so. This presentation goes some way to commencing the thought process (apologies for ordinary audio mid-point).
So I recently presented at the second of the Business Boroondara 2018 Super Networking Night series, where each facilitated evening is themed, with a guest speaker providing valuable tips and activities. At the session, I shared my insights on the topic ‘How to know what your Business is Worth’, as the local resident a Business Value Analyst, Exit Strategist and Business Broker.
The specifics of what I spoke about were recorded and can be listened to here.
Enjoy! If anything you hear raises any questions for you, please ask… sell@theentrepreneurialmother.com.au

First gig of the year for me kicks off with being on the panel at first Boroondara Supernetworking night on Feb 6, 2018. The theme of which is:
Ever wondered what others take out of failure? Can it really pave the road to future success?
Our first networking event of the year will feature a panel of four presenting their personal stories from Mishap to Mastery! As usual, there will also be opportunities for local networking.
My understanding is that these networking events are always very popular so, if you would like to come, you are most warmly invited. This event is free, but bookings are essential for catering purposes.

So, you’ve gone down the road of being a Business Owner.
You had a terrific idea and came out all guns blazing!
Then over time, it has slowed, stagnated, as have You.
It’s now got to a point where, for whatever reason, it is no longer working for you.
The fizz has lost its pop!
You want time and headspace to explore other options.
Is it time to bring your business to the conclusion you both deserve… that is, to GET OUT.
By not thinking about how to “Change the Ending” may result in the blood, sweat and tears, time and money you’ve invested, being all for naught, nada, nil!
There is no quick fix with taking this road, other than to pack the Business away with the toys.
Do you really want to do that? Are you really OK with getting no payback for your once grandmaster plan?
If not, then there’s work to be done…

About this business of yours, has this year:
- surpassed expectations? well on the way to building an asset to sell
- done alright? hit milestones as foreseen
- plateaued? nothing much happened
- nose dived? a shocking year, be glad when it’s over
Whatever the answer is, was it good enough for what you wanted to achieve?
If yes, well done you – carry on! If not, what’s going to make 2018 any different?
Maybe it’s worth working out what the business is worth first, in today’s market, and then making decisions accordingly. Having appraised over 150+ businesses this year alone, I can work with you to ascertain the value first, and then work out next steps…
Think of it as my Christmas present to you! Ho Ho Ho

In was a delight in speaking with Joanna Oakey of Aspect Legal, and creator of The Deal Room Podcast about the Business Sale journey, what to look out for and why knowing what your business is worth at any given time is really important, for now and into the future.
From vendor to broker, Denise Hall trod a unique path to her role now as business value analyst, exit strategist and broker. In this episode Denise shares the things she wishes she had known when she was selling her own business and how to keep sale ready. We also delve into a discussion about what accountants and professional business advisers should be doing when they’re dealing with businesses as they grow and evolve into something that one day might be ready to sell.

BONUS insight : “Business Ownership is not a Life Sentence …you can GET OUT” proudly brought to you by me!
How Saleable is your Business? Is your Business Ready to Sell at a moment’s notice?
Building a Business into an Asset may result in it possibly being the largest asset you’ll ever own, if not second after your home. So NOT “Starting with the End in Mind” (regardless of how old it is) when you’re ready can result in all the blood, sweat, tears, time and money you’ve invested resulting in close to nothing!
Knowing how to build a business that’s worthy, understanding where its value lies, finding a way to GET OUT as profitably and seamlessly as possible, means you need to think about what needs to be done and how to do it
You will then be able to
• define what it means to have a saleable and profitable business
• identify the key attributes a buyer will look for
• determine your business strengths and the advice you will need

Had the absolute pleasure to do the first Facebook Live for the Ambitious Entrepreneur Show, with Annemarie Cross, discussing all things What Is Your Business Worth? A most interesting experience which all went rather smoothly thanks for the impressive skills of Annemarie on the control panel.
It was a good solid conversation about what Business Owners should be doing in their business that will actually be of value come exit and/or sale time. Many Business Owners are guilty of doing the activities they like to do and are even good at, as opposed to the ones that add the most value and need to be done.
My view is why be in business if you’re not planning to build it into an Asset?

This enables far more informed decisions to be made when the time comes to make BIG life ones including what do I do with my business…
